Mindfulness-Based Online Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

As mentioned, ACT employs mindfulness. Our online ACT therapists may integrate mindfulness into your sessions, because sometimes, you may feel that you are somewhere else, dissociated, emotionally dysregulated, etc.

Online Acceptance and Commitment Therapy recognizes the importance of being present, observant, and non-judgmental. You may hear us talk a lot about grounding techniques, especially for our clients who have experienced trauma. Practicing brings mastery. We know that you may feel overwhelmed and having a new strategy or technique may seem like a chore, but we will support you through it.

Another key part of online ACT is value clarification. When we, as your therapist, ask you about your goals, we ask with purpose. You must become aware of your values and life goals, especially if you are feeling hopeless and unattached to things. By knowing your values, you become a more confident and decisive person.

A sense of purpose is pivotal to feeling like you are living a meaningful life, but it is not always obvious. Please know that you do not need to know your purpose by some deadline. Explore and discover new aspects of yourself and our clinicians hope to be an auxiliary, but not dependent, part of that journey.

We know that commitment can be a very scary thing, but give yourself credit for committing to even the very idea of starting therapy. It truly is a major step that you are taking. Online ACT recognizes the importance of committed actions - taking measured steps towards achieving your goals and honing in on your values. We strive to brainstorm with you to find your pathway to your goals.

At the end of the day, you are the most central and most important person in your recovery and healing. No one can do it for you and you cannot always get something (e.g. an apology) from someone to help you get there. Online ACT therapists at OVAC may use self-as-context (an ACT concept) to help you solidify a sense of self. We believe that our clients or people in general are resilient, but sometimes, developing self-awareness can make all the difference.

In Summary

Online Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) represents a valuable and innovative approach to addressing mental health challenges, particularly for individuals with anxiety, depression, and stress. By adapting the principles and techniques of traditional ACT to a digital format, online therapy offers increased accessibility, flexibility, and convenience. While online ACT presents unique benefits, such as enhanced engagement and reduced stigma, it also requires careful consideration of factors such as technology, privacy, and self-motivation. With the right platform and approach, online ACT can empower individuals to embrace change, pursue meaningful goals, and achieve greater psychological flexibility and well-being.
